  • A person should not have a subsisting marriage with any other person on the date of court marriage.
  • The woman should not be less than 18 years old and the man not less than 21 years old on the date of marriage.
  • Both of them should be of sound mind and be able to give their valid consent to marriage.
  • Both of them should not fall within the degree of prohibited relationship unless provided for by the custom governing them.

The Certificate of Marriage: Once the declaration is signed, the Marriage Registrar enters the certificate in the Marriage Certificate Register. This certificate becomes the conclusive proof of the marriage.
